STAY SAFE - STAY SECURE
The bus and tram network across the West Midlands remains one of the safest in the UK. However, there are always things that you can do to further ensure your safety whilst on the bus or the metro.

Here are Safer Travel’s handy ‘Safe and Secure’ tips:

  • Keep your valuables safe and out of sight
  • Use your mobile phone or MP3 Player with discretion and set ring-tone to ‘silent’
  • Keep your bag and other belongings close to you
  • Loop handles of bags around your wrist if possible
  • Don’t leave your bag on the floor or on the seat beside you
  • Don’t leave valuables in the luggage rack
  • Be aware of your immediate surroundings
  • Know who’s sitting near to you, next to you or behind you
  • Sit on the lower deck in view of the driver and CCTV if necessary on late night journeys

Always be aware that the bus driver is carrying out his duties, checking mirrors, issuing tickets, looking at travel cards, negotiating traffic, assessing road conditions - he may not be aware that incidents are occurring, especially on the upper deck!

These tips are also available in the new Safer Travel information leaflet which can be picked up from any of our Travel Card & Information Centre’s and most local libraries.

If you would like a ‘Stay Safe – Stay Secure’ leaflet posted to your home address, then please email safertravel@travelwm.co.uk including your details.
